Overview
Echoes of History Past is a trade name used by an individual content creator operating as a sole proprietor, not a registered company or LLC. This policy explains what the public website collects, what the shared account and newsletter systems collect, and where Vera-specific data begins.
Public Website Data
You can read articles and browse most public pages without creating an account or actively submitting personal information. The public website may still process ordinary technical data through hosting logs, security systems, analytics, embedded media, fonts, and browser requests needed to load the site.
Information You Choose to Provide
- Newsletter: If you subscribe to The Codex, we collect your email address, confirmation status, subscription date, confirmation token, and unsubscribe token.
- Contact form and direct email: If you contact us, we use your name, email address, subject, and message to respond and route the request.
- Account registration: If you create an Echoes/Vera account, we collect email address, password hash, first and last name fields, account tier, email verification status, newsletter preference, age confirmation, Terms/Privacy consent timestamp, and related session/security records.
- Cart and store activity: Cart contents may be stored in your browser's
localStorage. Store checkout, subscriptions, and fulfillment may involve payment, tax, shipping, or fulfillment providers when those features are active.
Newsletter
The Codex newsletter uses a confirmation flow before an address is treated as subscribed. Newsletter emails should include an unsubscribe option or another clear way to opt out of future marketing messages. Transactional account messages, such as verification or password reset emails, may still be sent when needed to operate the service.
Analytics and Cookies
This site uses Google Analytics through the Google gtag.js script to understand search, discovery, page performance, and general audience behavior. Google Analytics may set first-party analytics identifiers and process technical data such as browser, device, approximate location, pages viewed, and referral source under Google's own privacy policies. We do not use Google Analytics for ad personalization or cross-site advertising retargeting.
Third-party services embedded on certain pages may set their own cookies:
- Embedded media: Playing embedded media may activate the provider's player and cookies.
- Fonts and content delivery: External font or content delivery services may process technical request data such as IP address and browser information.
- Payment and fulfillment: Payment, tax, shipping, and fulfillment providers may process checkout information under their own terms when checkout is used.
Vera Service Data
Vera is a separate AI companion service connected to this website through shared account and member-access features. Vera may store account information, session records, usage/credit records, billing identifiers, conversation history, memory and relationship state, generated media, and other service data needed to provide continuity. Vera-specific data should be reviewed and governed as its own service, even though the website links to it and shares login/account surfaces.
Children's Privacy
The public website is intended for a general audience. Vera account creation and companion access are intended only for users aged 18 years and older. We do not knowingly allow minors to create Vera accounts. If we become aware that a user is under 18, the account will be terminated and associated data deleted where legally and operationally possible.
Hosting and Data Location
Data associated with the public website and related services is primarily processed in the United States. Service providers used for analytics, email, AI processing, payment, tax, fulfillment, or embedded media may process data in other regions under their own policies.
Service Providers
The website and related account features may use service providers for hosting, analytics, security, email delivery, AI processing, payment, tax, shipping, and fulfillment. These providers are used to operate the site and services, not to sell your personal information. We do not send plaintext passwords or payment card numbers to AI providers, and we do not store payment card data on this website.
Data Retention
Contact messages are retained only as long as needed to respond or maintain a reasonable business record. Newsletter records are retained until unsubscribe, deletion, or list maintenance. Account, billing, session, Vera continuity, and generated media records are retained while the account remains active unless deletion is requested or retention is needed for security, billing, legal, fraud-prevention, or abuse-prevention reasons.
Your Choices and Requests
You may request correction of inaccurate account data, deletion of newsletter or account records, a summary of personal data associated with your account, or withdrawal from newsletter marketing. Send requests through the contact page or email support@echoesofhistorypast.com. Some Vera data requests may require separate review because Vera stores service continuity and generated interaction data beyond the public website.
Security
Account passwords are stored as one-way cryptographic hashes. Account sessions use secure cookies where supported, and data is transmitted over HTTPS. We take reasonable technical measures to protect account, newsletter, contact, billing-reference, and Vera data, but no system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The Last updated date reflects when changes were last made. Continued use of the website or Vera service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
